When process work is useful
When the same type of work or decision recurs, depends on several inputs, is difficult to track, or needs to be measured, standardised or partly automated.
From problem to process
We first define what the process needs to decide, measure or deliver. We then determine the required inputs, data, steps, responsibilities, control points, exceptions and criteria for the result.
Possible outputs
Depending on scope, the output may include:
- workflow design
- measurement and control points
- decision rules
- an automation specification
- an implemented working or decision process
- a specification ready for software implementation
Process work does not by itself guarantee time or cost savings. Where these are relevant objectives, they need to be defined in advance and measured.
