Research

A research service is useful when the objective is to determine whether a change, relationship or assumption genuinely exists, how strong the evidence is and under which conditions the result holds.

Where we start

Every project begins with a precisely defined question and a predefined condition that could reject the original hypothesis.

What research may include

  • definition of the question and hypothesis
  • assessment of data provenance, availability and quality
  • structuring and measurement of variables
  • statistical or other relevant testing
  • tests of alternative explanations, timing and robustness
  • a conclusion including limitations and conditions of failure

Possible outputs

Depending on scope, the output may be:

  • an analysis or research report
  • a validated or rejected hypothesis
  • an indicator or measurement
  • structured data
  • a validation conclusion
  • a specification for a subsequent process or software solution

A negative result is a valid research outcome. We choose the methodology to fit the data and the research question, not the other way around.
